Driving Over All Ages
Driving Over All Ages Dear Editor,
I am a parent at Saint Francis de Sales and on the first day of school there was also a seniors meeting scheduled in the gym at 12:30. This was a problem because the first day of dismissal time was 11:30 and the seniors decided to go to their meeting early and had to park in the lot where the students also get dismissed. There were about 500 chil- dren plus their parents and siblings in the schoolyard and these cars decided to pull into the lot and drive to the other side of the yard to park their cars. The seniors have been told by Mrs. Magee and Sister Patricia that they are not to go into the lot at dismissal time because of the risk of hitting someone with a car. Obviously they don't listen because they do it every time there is a meeting. Last year one car almost hit a first grader standing next to her teacher. The parents approached the driver and she said that she needed to get to her meeting and had to park closer because she couldn't walk that far. On Wednesday one lady drove in one gate and out the gate on Beach 129 Street to reverse into a spot on the street that was closer. When she got out of the car she was walking with a cane and a walking stick. When will they realize this is a very dangerous and possibly deadly situation?
