Volunteers Needed For Beach Clean-Up Day

Several sites in the Brooklyn and Queens sections of the Gateway National Recreation Area will participate in the autumn International Beach Clean-Up Day on Saturday, September 20 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Each year hundreds of area residents volunteer to help clean the Atlantic beaches and Jamaica Bay shorelines, as a way to preserve the local environment. Those who would like to volunteer can call 718-338-3799 for a list of meeting locations and to sign up for the cleanup site of their choice. Participants are asked to bring drinking water and work gloves, and to wear appropriate footwear.
