Historical Views of the Rockaways

Handout Advertising Card s Passed Out To Steamboat Riders 1882
From The Rockaway Museum by Emil Lucev, Curator Dedicated To The Memory Of Leon S. Locke

Many young boys were hired to pass out advertising cards at city steamboat docks, and few have survived to the present.

One such from my collection of the Rockaway's memorabilia toted the Seaside Hotel at the second landing (in Jamaica Bay) Rockaway Beach, L.I.

One thousand bathing houses with still water and surf bathing were the main feature for patrons to escape the heat and bad air of the inner city. James Remsen and William Wainright were the proprietors.

Also to be noted on the card is the 1882 version of Playboy!
