Words from Dan McIntyre, BCVFD: "The BCVFD would like to congratulate the BCAC and all their hard working individuals who made their Mardi Gras efforts successful. We look forward to keeping this new spirit alive for next season and look forward to working together with these fine people to make this a reality. Great Job!
"As most residents know, the BCVFD conducts their annual fund drive each year to raise operating capital. Many of our friends were very supportive this year, unfortunately we have received to date responses from only 37% of our neighbors; this figure is well below our normal response levels. Reminder letter will be forthcoming. Those of you who have helped with your generosity- thanks and well done- for those who have forgotten, please help us now. In the Spring, we distributed informative brochures requesting $75 per household. Please realize $75 breaks down to about 20.5 cents a day.
"We would like to also thank those who have decided to sign up with United Way on our behalf, we will count this figure as your Fund Drive contribution and we would like to remind everyone that this is a great way to help out our local organizations. Our family's personal donation is through United Way.
"October is fire prevention month, change smoke and carbon monoxide detector batteries. Your family's lives depend on it. The BCVFD is planning events for October; we will keep you posted."
A Recycling/Clothing Donation Event will be held in Forest Park on Woodhaven Boulevard in the Bandshell parking lot on September 20 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Rockaway and B.C. neighbors are invited to attend the Second Annual Father Brendan Downing Disability Awareness Mass at St. Gertrude Church at Beach 38 Street and Beach Channel Drive in Edgemere. For further information, send email to below address.
