The scoreboard at Samuel J. Tilden's Bernie Mars Field, where the varsity football team plays their homes games, wasn't working last Saturday afternoon. Maybe it wasn't working, or someone didn't turn it on prior to the start of Beach Channel's second PSAL game of the season at the Brooklyn high school. More ... It was a hot opening week for St. Francis' CYO soccer teams, who kept the opposing goalies busy in some high-scoring affairs. The Fourth Grade Girls team looked as if last season never ended. The defending champions toppled Our Lady of Hope by a score of 6-0. Goals during the game came from Molly Breslin (3), Maria Di Carlo (2), and Kaitlin Neiswenter. More ... The Far Rockaway Seahorses left the confines of home to travel across New York City and play in the Bronx last Saturday morning. The travel was long and for three quarters the physical battle the Seahorses had on the football field was even longer. More ... The Shamrocks scored first on a 1-yard run by Eddie Hoff and an extra point toss from QB Phil Jannis to Charlie Gavigan. Plainview answered with a touchdown to cut the score to 7- 6. The Shamrocks scored in the second quarter on a 5-yard run from Chris Manfre. More ... Channel View Academy student Shiclasia Brown had a fine summer as her basketball team captured first place at the Aviator Youth Basketball League. Brown is a seventh grade student at Channel View. More ... The BCAC White Shamrocks, consisting mainly of residents from Belle Harbor, went up against a bigger and tougher West Hempstead team early last Sunday morning in Long Island. The Shamrocks came up on the short end by the score of 12-6 in I their first road game of the season. More ... In the first night game of the year, the BCAC Shamrock Green Peanuts took on the very tough Bethpage Eagles. The Shamrocks defense was absolutely amazing in giving up only one score the whole game.
