Show Respect, Curb Your Dog

Dear Editor,

Recently my family and I have noticed a large increase in the amount of dog poop being left on our sidewalks. If you dare to walk on the boulevard between 133rd Street and St Francis de Sales, you need to be part acrobat in order to avoid the fresh land mines left daily on the streets, sidewalks and lawns by some of Rockaway's finest canines. No area is sacred, even the sidewalk in front of the prayer garden is soiled. I don't understand, it seems like a very simple concept to clean up after your dog! All dog owners must realize that dogs are expected to go to the bathroom when walked, so please take a baggie or newspaper with you in order to take it off the sidewalk and deposit it where it belongs. I have lived in Rockaway nine years and have yet to see a pack of stray dogs roaming around, so I believe that the dogs responsible must have owners!! Having most dog owners fulfill their responsibilities is simply not good enough, all must do so.

People pay enormous prices for their homes in Rockaway and go to great lengths to keep them looking beautiful. PLEASE, if you own a dog show your neighbors some respect by cleaning up after it and keeping it on a leash and off people's lawns. We are blessed to live in such a beautiful town, let's keep it that way!
