Ocean Walk To Benefit Obstetrics At SJEH

St. John's Episcopal Hospital Development Board is holding the Third Annual Ocean Walk on Sunday, September 21, 2008.

The proceeds of the Ocean Walk will benefit the Obstetrics and Gynecology Depart-ment at St. John's Episcopal Hospital.

Registration for the walk will begin at 1:30 p.m. at the flagpole in front of the hospital, located at 327 Beach 19 Street. The walk will start at 2 p.m., proceed to the boardwalk until Beach 9 Street and then return to the hospital.

The St. John's Development Board event is sponsored by Tate Medical Center, Hunter Ambulance, and Margaret and Tim Carpenter. Reva Oliner is serving as the Ocean Walk's chairperson.

More than 10,000 babies have been delivered at St. John's in the past decade. Proceeds of the Ocean Walk will go towards providing enhanced care for all who come to St. John's to deliver.

The hospital is the sole obstetrical service on the Rockaways. St. John's Nursery has 25 bassinets certified by the New York State Department of Health.

The hospital also provides care for high-risk infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The Obstetrics/ Gynecology Depart-ment provides prenatal care and testing, comprehensive fetal monitoring and testing, and a full range of midwifery services with certified nurse midwives.

St. John's also offers prepared childbirth classes that include a tour of the Labor and Delivery Unit, Maternity and Nursery. St. John's Obstetrics/ Gynecology Department offers comprehensive women's healthcare services, including well-women's care, inpatient hospital care, and minimally invasive as well as major surgery.

The walk will include giveaways and refreshments upon return.
