Mike Benn, President of the Queens County St. Patrick's Day Parade, has been selected as this year's Chief Brehon of the Coney Island Fair. The fair is to be held on Saturday, September 20 and Sunday, September 21 in Steeplechase Park, Coney Island. More ... Xander McDonald-Smith, a 15-year-old Rockaway Park resident and student of The Scholars' Academy placed fourth in the Walmart First Tee Open Pro-Junior Golf Tournament in Pebble Beach, California on August 31. The tournament, televised on the Golf Channel, consisted of 70 junior golfers teamed with professional golfers competing on the world famous Pebble Beach Golf Links, site of the 2010 U.S. Open. Highlighted by a breakfast, workshops, a basketball tournament, a community barbeque and a talent show, Far Rockaway's Church of the Nazarene celebrated its annual Youth Fest '08 on August 23. With a theme of "Encourage Yourself", the three-day event was bookended by youth services on August 22 and August 24. The church's New Generation for Christ Youth Ministry presented Youth Fest '08. Rockaway Development and Revitalization Corporation, the NYPD's Community Affairs unit, Senator Malcolm Smith and Langer Realty sponsored it. Rudolph, a long standing member of Peninsula Hospital Center's Board of Directors and past President of the Auxiliary, recently celebrated her 90th birthday amongst friends and family at the Inwood Country Club. She has received many awards of appreciation for her service including the United Hospital Fund's Trustee of the Year Award, Hospital and Auxilian Volunteer Achievement Award and a Certificate of Merit from former NYS Governor Mario Cuomo.
