Deceitful Cell Phone Robbery In Edgemere

By Nicholas Briano

A Rockaway Beach teenager allegedly ran off with a man's cell phone in Edgemere after asking the victim if he could use it to call his mother, according to police.

The victim, Alan Martinez, 24, was approached by Dennis Watson, 17, of 8200 Shore Front Parkway, and asked if he could borrow the cell phone at Beach Channel Drive and Beach 35 Street, at 3:47p.m. last Sunday, police said.

The victim, who was holding the phone in his hand, quickly put it back into his pocket only for Watson to pull it out of his front pocket, telling the owner to leave before he punched him, according to court papers.

Transit District 23 cops nabbed the suspect and returned the cell phone to Martinez.

The arrestee was charged with fourth degree grand larceny and fifth degree criminal possession of stolen property.

He was arraigned in Queens Criminal Court on Monday and held on $2,000 bail. He is due back in court September 8.
