Resigning From ARF-ARF

The following letter was sent to the members and Friends of ARF-ARF. Dear Editor,

Since about March 2007, I - with a handful of helpers along the way - have been managing first the idea of this park and since last August the park itself, frankly because no one else volunteered to do it. I have devoted many hours executing the majority of the day-to-day tasks to keep the park running - see partial list below. Several months ago I realized that my schedule is not allowing me to contribute the necessary time to the park. I had reached out for help several times with very limited interest.

Please know that being a member of ARF-ARF doesn't begin and end with opening and closing the gate. It is a privilege that we have this park here for our dogs to use. In order for Freeway Dog Park to remain in existence a dedicated cohesive group is needed to foster this park into the wonderfully outfitted dog-heaven that we all want it to be.

Effective immediately, I must resign from this post. This web address and the corresponding website will shut down immediately. The P.O. Box will remain open and will need to be transferred to a volunteer.

It is paramount that volunteers step up to the plate and share in the tasks at hand. Please contact Jill Weber at NYC Parks (Jill.Weber@ parks.nyc.gov) with your interest in volunteering for the group. The following responsibilities that need attention include: communication monitor/respond to e-mails (about 5 per week), send group e-mail updates as necessary, maintain and update website, liaise with Parks Department on park happenings, issues, etc.; membership - stock literature holders with membership applications, check PO box for mail/membership fees, maintain membership list, mail out membership cards; accounting/ vendors - make deposits, maintain accounting spreadsheet, order/ stock Poopie bags; and fundraising assist in planning and organizing biyearly events.

I will certainly work with Jill and all interested parties to ease in the transition.
