Public School/Middle School 42 Collaborative Art Projects

New York Cares Project ***

PS/MS 42 has had a productive year for the arts. In collaboration with New York Cares, an organization that mobilizes caring New Yorkers in volunteer services, the school family helped to beautify the school. On May 30, 80 corporate volunteers and 27 students spent the day cleaning, painting and planting flowers. The school yards were painted with games and a map of the states, closets were cleaned, and 24 canvases were painted in the auditorium "museum."

Another project that allowed students to showcase their talents was "SPLASH," an event organized by Ms. Purdie (art), Mrs. Barfield (fashion) and Ms. Reason (chorus). The event was held on June 10 from 3-8 p.m. in the school's cafeteria. Teachers, staff, parents and the public were invited to view and purchase the artwork. Following the event, a fashion show was held in the auditorium.
