13-Year-Old Local Artist Showcases Talents

Myesha Winston, a Far Rockaway resident and aspiring artist has been trying to perfect her drawings since she was five years old.

Eight years later and on her way to M.S. 53 this fall, Winston feels she is blossoming into a legitimate cartoon artist and continues to find inspiration in her mother.

"My mom says I have a special gift in my hands," Winston said. "My mom always tells me to go after things that I think aren't always possible."

In addition to her sketches, Winston says, she likes to play basketball and draws her inspiration for her art from cartoons and comics, an industry she hopes to one day conquer.

"I want to be the best cartoon artist in the world when I grown up."

She says she has been able to overcome her fear of failure and isn't ashamed to show off her work anymore.

"I was told all my life by bullies that I couldn't accomplish anything," Winston continued. "But I practice all the time now and was told by my mom to never give up."
