Rockaway Little Leaguers Take To Field At Keyspan Park
     Two Rockaway little league teams were at Keyspan Park on Sunday evening for a Brooklyn Cyclones game and to take the field during the playing of the Star Spangled Banner. Prior to the game, a ceremony honoring Brooklyn Dodger great Carl Erskine was held. Pictured, Erskine speaks as Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes, a Breezy Point resident, looks on.

      The First Annual Pappy's Traveling Circus Over 40 Senior Volleyball Tournament was held Wednesday night, August 13 at Riis Park. Although the official RBVL season ended on August 9, players couldn't bear the thought of life without volleyball, so they came out one more time to play the game they love so much.

Classic Ends As Harbor Light Gold Wins Title
      The St. Francis Summer Classic completed its 24th season last Thursday night with the Women's Open B Championship. It was a house affair with Harbor Light Gold taking on Harbor Light White. The first half saw the lead change hands often, and ended with Gold holding a 17-16 lead. Maggie Allen's two three-pointers kept White close each time Gold threatened to pull away.

Luncheon In September For Par Tee Golf
      If you have lost more than four balls on any given hole, for safety reasons let your partner drive the cart. The low score for the golf action on August 13 is credited to Eileen Watson with a 61. Peg Ansbro had 63. Nancy Heffernan finished with 66. The duo of Dolores McAleer and Marie Campbell scored 66. Joanna Beck had 67 and Pam Armour finished with 69.

      D. Reggie Green stepped through the velvet ropes on Saturday night in the Five Towns Community Center, and faced his opponent across the corner of the ring with one mission in hand. Boxing is in his blood but Green hadn't put on the gloves in five years.

      After moving to the Rockaways four years ago, Antonio Cannon Sr. didn't forget the friendships he forged when living in Lefrak City. When Cannon started his AAU basketball program there, his sons Deytwan and Antonio Jr. had formed what was thought to be a lifelong friendship with Tyshawn Bierria.

Dodgers Legend Remains Humble
      The season was 1955, and Indiana native Carl Erskine was a star right handed pitcher on the mound at Ebbetts Field. He was a big part of the only Brooklyn Dodgers team to win the World Series over the New York Yankees. 53 years later, Erskine is a bit older and grayer but the spark remains after being honored by the Brooklyn Cyclones last Sunday.
