Global Diversity In Rockaway Abounds

A traditional Nigerian (Yoruban) wedding engagement ceremony was held on August 8, a day when more than 20,000 weddings occurred in New York alone. The ceremony is part of an ancient tradition by the Yoruba people of Nigeria, West Africa in which the groom's family introduces themselves to the bride's family and requests to have their daughter's hand in marriage to their son. It takes place a day before the actual wedding. Photos by Timothy Aaron-Styles.
