PS/MS 183 Celebrates With The Lion King
PS/MS 183 rewarded their hard-working volunteers with a Broadway show. Volunteers and their children who attend the school were treated to "The Lion King." For some volunteers, who include the Parent Association board members, Learning Leaders, and Student Leadership members, this was their first Broadway show. Jackie Stillwell, parent coordinator, accompanied the group and arranged a question and answer seminar with Little Simba, who is played by Scholars' Academy student Guy Barfield, Jr. Cast members also explained the props used to create the artistic stage.
The exposure to theatre arts was an encouraging and educational experience for students. A visit to an historical area of New York City was arranged to expose talented and dedicated families to the arts. The children of PS/MS 183 hope to use their dancing and singing talents to become distinguished. This experience showed them that they can use their reading, vocal, athletic and intellectual skills to provide entertainment to people of all ages and cultures.
