Harlem Dowling Celebrates Family Day In Bayswater Park

Harlem Dowling, Far Rockaway Family Services Center held its first Rockaway Children Network Friends and Family Day on Friday, August 1 at Bayswater Park. The event brought over 500 children and adults together for a day of food, family and fun. With support from NYC Department Parks and Recreation, NYC Police Department, St. John's Episcopal Hospital, Holliswood Hospital, NYC Children Services, Far Rockaway Youth Court and other sponsors, participants were able to enjoy a variety of games, activities, arts and crafts. In partnership with the NYC Children Services, the New York City Police Department served up a variety of grilled delights.

Co-chaired by Harlem Dowling Far Rockaway Family Service Center director, Patricia Traynor, and SJEH's director, Chris Boller, Rockaway Children Network is a collaboration among community based service providers, contract agencies, direct care and community stakeholders joining forces to strengthen the well-being of children and families in Far Rockaway's District 14.

Founded in 1836 as the Colored Orphan Asylum, Harlem Downing is a not-for-profit multi-service agency providing out-ofhome foster care, adoption, therapeutic placement, supportive housing for youth aging out of foster care and other support services.
