      This circa 1919 photograph of an old bungalow in the seaside section of Rockaway Beach had to be taken on the Fourth of July holiday. American flags are mounted everywhere, as was the practice in the early days, a practice that has waned over the years in America, and no one seems to care anymore! My four by five foot flag is up every day. Where is yours?

      What The Wave Said 20 Years Ago... Plans are being prepared to provide additional street lighting on Beach 43 Street and Beach Channel Drive, Edgemere, by the end of the year. Arson is suspected in two fires in Broad Channel Wednesday morning, August 17, in which more than a dozen boats were ablaze.

      Tuesday, August 5 we started by attending the 100 Precinct Night Out Against Crime. Congratulations to Daniel Ruscillo, president of the 100th Precinct Community Council and his outstanding committee that made their event the number one in the city. Due to their hard work and diligence there were over 100,000 people on the boardwalk to see the fireworks that night.

      My cousin in Italy emailed the other day to inform me he saw my house on a Goggle Search site. In Great Britain police surveillance cameras are ubiquitous. In New York City a policeman was viewed on camera attacking a member of the public. In Los Angles many years ago the police attack on Rodney King was filmed. Riots were started as a result of the attack.
