Par Tee News Announces Upcoming Golf Championship

By Peg Ansbro

It's amazing how a golfer who never helps out around the house will replace his divots, repair his ball marks, and rake his sand traps.

In last week's action on August 7, Peg Ansbro had the lowest score with a 62. Joanna Beck scored 63, Dolores McAleer and MaryEllen Hogan had 64.

Others in the sixties were Doris Neimeth (65), Nancy Heffernan (66) and Marie Campbell (67).

In the seventies were Eileen Watson (70), Pat Lunny (71), Barbara Caramelli (72), Meg Feerick (73), and the quartet of Alice Mateos, Ann Spillane, Evie McVeigh and Pat Livingstone each scored 74. Chris Brunner and Arlene Crane recorded (75);

Pam Armour, Teresa GaNun ,Carol Bayne and Ann Campbell (76); Pat Barry and Nancy Tutolo (78); and Joan Williams, Lorraine Pierson, Pat Jordan, Dotty Dunne, Helen Mele and Marilyn Danese all finished with 79.

Two ladies ,Doris Neimeth and Peg Ansbro, obtained two birdies each Birdies were also had by Eileen Watson, MaryEllen Hogan, Helen Mele, Carol Bayne, Meg Feerick Ann Campbell and and Marie Campbell. Chip-ins is credited to Pat Livingstone, Alice Mateos, Marge O'Leary, Pat Kelly, Anne Tobin, Mary Powers and Lorraine Pierson.

Only two competitors scored chip-in birdies: Teresa GaNun and Evie McVeigh.

Closest to the pin on Hole # 10 was Barbara Caramelli and on hole #18, the winner was Dolores McAleer. The 50/50 was won by Alice Mateos.

Our two day championship will be held on Thursday August 21 and August 28.

Eileen Watson says that each person will be given an official card with their handicap.

On the first week of play, a fellow competitor will compute their score. Score cards will be handed in after play, and the next week will be returned to each player.

Now the good part is that on the second week of play you can try and improve your score on each hole.

For example, if you had a four on hole #3 the first week, and scored a 3 the following week, then the 3 will be your finishing score for that hole. Good luck to all participants.

The 26th Annual Closing Luncheon will be held on Tuesday, September 9 at Russo's on the Bay. Lunch will include appetizer, salad, lunch, dessert and unlimited wine and beer.

The cost is $40. Checks will be made payable to "Par Tee Golf".

Next week is our last meeting at the Catholic Club, so please bring your checks to the tournament on August 21 and give them to either Alice Mateos or Bea Sharrock.

For further information, please call Alice Mateos at 945-1066.

A golfer asked his friend, "Why are you so late?" The friend replied, "It's Sunday. I had to toss a coin between going to church or playing golf and it took 25 passes to get it right!"

God Bless! Have a great week!
