Broad Channel Baseball Park

Dear Editor,

There is a baseball park in Broad Channel on the west side of the Cross Bay Bridge. The south end of the park is beachfront where people used to stroll and others would fish. Unfortunately the reconstruction of the bridge has resulted in the construction debris to be deposited on the beach. The beach is now laden with large blocks of cement, pilings from the bridge, and broken tarmac. The beach is strewn with construction debris such that it is impossible to walk the beach altogether. It is interesting that in the News, Queens section, on 8/8/08, there is a photo of Anthony Weiner supporting the clean up of Jamaica Bay by dredging abandoned boats from the bottom of the bay. It seems more appropriate to prevent the depositing of construction debris on the beach, which will only entail more city funds to be expended at a later date to clean up the beach than if the construction debris was carted off site in the first place.
