Correction Officers Needed

Assemblywoman Audrey I. Pheffer has been contacted by the New York State Department of Correctional Services (DCS), requesting her assistance with their department’s correction officer recruiting effort. Under the auspice of the New York State Department of Civil Service, a new examination will be held on October 18. The filing deadline for the exam is September 2. A filing fee of $30 must accompany all applications.

The training starting salary begins at $34,329 annually, with an increase to $36,111 after six months. Upon completion of the one-year Correction Officer traineeship, the annual salary increases to $41,348.

At the time of appointment, candidates must be at least 21 years old; be in good physical and mental health; possess a high school diploma or GED; and be a U.S. citizen. Convicted felons are automatically disqualified. The New York State Department of Correctional Services is a non-discriminatory, affirmative action employer; women and minorities are strongly encouraged to apply.
