Rain Doesn't Wash Away Partee Golf Tournament
Thanks to the efforts of our co-chair ladies, Betty Weed and Eileen Witzgall our "Guys and Dolls" tournament was not a complete washout.
The rain started early and forced the cancellation of the golf game. It was a very disappointing situation but our chairladies alleviated the circumstances with the good cheer they demonstrated at the Catholic Club. The doors opened at 10:30 and what a sight to behold!
The decorations and table arrangements and prizes were awesome and included a snack tray and magnetic clip with a golf motif. It raised everyone's spirits to see such a marvelous display of creativity. A welcome was given by the president of the Par Tees, Alice Matoes. She thanked Betty and Eileen for all their efforts and then asked us to complete the golf quiz that was compiled by Carol Smyth.
We were then treated to a delicious and plentiful buffet catered by Fran Jamin. After coffee and cake, "letters of Appreciation" were given to the following: Peg Wheeler (50/50 lady), Carol Smyth (Computer expert), Peg Ansbro (reporter), Alice Mateos and Sheila Schaberick (co-presidents of Par Tee), Mary McDermott (treasurer), Helen Mele and Marie Heffernan (scorekeepers), and Margaret Bambury (refreshments).
The winner of the golf quiz was Evie McVeigh. Tied for second were Joan Fallon and Bill McDonald and tied for third were Joan McNally and Jim McEnaney.
Names were pulled from a hat and the winners of the prizes were: Teresa Gates, Joanne Hart, Kate Hanratty, Ken Bayne, Pat Powers, Tom Kearney, Mary Castellano, Joe Purtell, Don Sharrock, Nancy Heffernan, Jim McEnaney, Mary McDermott, Bob Pierson, John Bambury, Tess Kearney, Nancy Tutolo, Margaret Bambury, Vinnie Sullivan, Rick Herbert, Carol Smyth, and MaryEllen Hogan!
The 50/50 ($150) was won by Tom Kearney and the $70 prize went to Lil Hanratty. As you can see, Tess and Tom Kearney won the most prizes and, hopefully, this will add to the celebration of their 72nd wedding anniversary on August 9t Congratulations to this awesome couple and their children (who live in Breezy): Terry Gearity, Eileen Watson, and MaryEllen Hogan.
Remember: Golf is harder that baseball. In golf, you have to play your foul balls. God Bless. Have a great week.
