National Night Out Against Crime Celebrates 20 Years
Rockaway's local precincts have announced plans for the celebration of this year's National Night Out Against Crime. The August 5 events mark the 25th anniversary of the nation-wide event where law enforcement and the community come together to fight crime.
The 100 Precinct Community Council and District 23 Transit will host their event at Beach Channel High School's Athletic Field from 4 to 8 p.m.
Among those taking part at the BCHS venue will be different law enforcement agencies and various organizations that service the community including the FBI, the United States Coast Guard, the New York City Park Rangers, the Office of Emergency Management, the Drug Enforcement Agency, the US Marshall Service, Child Health Plus, JASA, CUNY on Wheels.
The entertainment will include the World Champion Pepper Steppers, Music Together of the Rockaways, a DJ - T.K.I and the Rockaway Theatre Company. There will be a popcorn machine and for the kids balloons and meet and greets with characters. A spectacular fireworks display will follow at 9 p.m. on Beach 115 Street and the boardwalk.
The 101 Precinct in Far Rockaway and its community partners will host their night out party next to the precinct house at 16-12 Mott Avenue from 2 to 6:30 p.m. Planners of the event for the 101 Precinct promises free refreshments, music, health screenings, crime prevention information, health insurance information, area program literature, games for the children and giveaways.
The evening will conclude with a unification march at 7 p.m. from the precinct house to Mott Avenue and Beach Channel Drive and back to the precinct.
Both celebrations will have raffles, with a 50/50 at BCHS, and for children there will be face painting and rides.
