When the committee meets in February and starts to plan the bar schedule, they save the outdoor decks for late in the season when the weather is supposed to be calm. Things don't always go as well as planned. But The Wharf laughed in the face of the Weather Channel, which predicted thunderstorms would rain on the RBVL weekly parade to the post game party. More ... The highlight of my week was Thursday morning. Instead of my usual course this time of year, coming into Shell bank creek from the north side, I ran Wood hull from the south side of the bay. I was glad to run up from the south. Unbeknown to my passengers were the thoughts in my mind. More ... It's been a hot summer, and the action at the St. Francis Summer Classic is getting even hotter. The first basketball champion for 2008 was crowned on Monday night as Bayview rallied to knock off Erin White. The youngsters held a double digit lead early in the second half, but the veterans picked up their defense with a suffocating 3-2. More ... Rockaway seemed to have a bubble over it all week as thunderstorms raged all around, but there was no question that Friday would be a glorious night. It was time for the Sixth Annual Graybeards Family Run presented by Arverne By The Sea. Rockaway Beach Boulevard was lined with spectators cheering on nearly 500 runners in the various races. More ... On Saturday, May 10, the St. Camillus Special Athletes team competed in a track and field event at Victory Field. Our athletes did very well in their races and soft ball throws. All of our competitors were awarded medals for their skills. More ... It rained on our "parade" but not on our party!!! Thanks to the efforts of our co-chair ladies, Betty Weed and Eileen Witzgall our "Guys and Dolls" tournament was not a complete washout. The rain started early and forced the cancellation of the golf game. More ... |
