Kate Newman of Rockaway Point was awarded a scholarship by Roosevelt Field and Simon Youth Foundation (SYF), a non-profit organization dedicated to providing educational and career development opportunities to youth. Newman received one of eight SFY Awards of Excellence given nationally. The scholarship is renewable for up to for years. More ... Far Rockaway High School's 2008 valedictorian, Nanayaa Serwaa, was this year's recipient of Multiviz Health Services $5000 college scholarship. Awarded annually by the local medical center, the scholarship was created as a "helping hand give back" for a deserving graduating student from the community planning a career in medicine. More ... Candido and Elizabeth Pineiro of Belle Harbor are happy to announce their daughter Brianne's graduation from the Navy's EOB, Explosive Ordinance Disposal Navy Diving Unit. Brianne went through intensive training in Panama City, Florida to receive this honor and is the only woman in the graduating class. She is now based at Elgin Air Force Base near Pensacola for ten months. Her father had the honor of pinning his daughter with her Navy Bubble Diving Pin. More ... In order to qualify for the dean's list, students must achieve a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Pierce is a history major at the Farquahar College for Arts and Sciences at the Fort Lauderdale/ Davie Campus.
