Have You Thanked A Lifeguard Today?
I would like to commend the following four lifeguards: Michael Raffo, Dorota Lewordowski, Eddie Lynch and David Lucena for their work on Beach 130 Street this past Sunday, July 13. That day the ocean had a very strong riptide and these four had to make at least eight saves during the afternoon, three of them within minutes of each other! Dorota injured her leg on one of the saves, but still ran into the water and assisted on all of the other saves. They had an extremely intense day, but they kept a very close eye on the water to insure everyone was safe. When my friend Amy mentioned to the chief their excellent work, he didn't even acknowledge their efforts. Letters recently printed in The Wave have been about parking in the streets of Belle Harbor or about the lack of lifeguards on the beach, so I thought it was about time that someone thanked the young men and women who risk their own safety and are unfailingly present on our beach each and every day. Have you thanked your lifeguard for being there today?
