Plastic Cups Improperly Placed

Dear Editor,

On Tuesday, July 15 at 9:15 a.m. I received a summons (was taped to my door on my residence on Beach 126 Street) by a Department of Sanitation Officer.

The $25.00 summons was for the infraction of "Plastic Cups improperly placed in a recycling container designated for metal, glass, placed out for collection."

I took out the plastic cups which were in the clear plastic recycling bag and observed that they clearly had a recycling emblem located on the bottom of the cups.

In fact, the summons clearly states the "General Description of Section/ Rule" is Non-Recycling in Recycling Container.

Is the city is going to issue summones for placing recycleable plastic cups (even if the plastic cups are not included in the City of New York's Recycling List). I guess they want their residents to start dumping their recycleable items on the beach or boardwalk to avoid receiving a summons. Maybe one day the bureaucrats will figure it out!
