SJEH Names Employees Of The Month

Valerie Allen-Scarlett. Valerie Allen-Scarlett. With input from patients, St. John's Episcopal Hospital honors one employee each month who has made a difference or whose performance has gone beyond the call of duty.

All winners receive a Tiffany crystal star and a check for $100. St. John's is proud to announce the second quarter winners of 2008:

APRIL'S WINNER: Valerie Allen- Scarlett.

Allen-Scarlett, Service Assistant for Psychiatry, has been at St. John's since 1985. Allen-Scarlett was nominated for her work with the Service Excellence Committee, which was formed to develop and promote core values for staff. Allen-Scarlett championed "compassion" to be one of the core values and has further become dedicated to all the values, often expressing how they have changed her and her work.

Her supervisor describes Allen- Scarlett as forthright and passionate about St. John's and nursing care. He states that since Allen-Scarlett began participating with the Service Excellence Committee, she has demonstrated a renewed zeal in her performance. In fact, she never rests until her patients are satisfied. MAY'S WINNER: Kim Capone, MSW.

Kim Capone. Kim Capone. Capone has been employed as a Social Worker since 2006. She was nominated by a patient who said that she continuously went above and beyond the call of duty for him. He expressed hope that St. John's continues to hire staff such as Capone.

Her supervisor says that Capone is a most pleasant professional, highly knowledgeable and someone who easily engages her patients by instantly putting them at ease. She is always available, warm and caring to families, as well as to her coworkers. JUNE'S WINNER: Lloyd Walters.

Lloyd Walters is a Service Assistant on Tower 8, Pulmonary Care Center.

Employed at St. John's since 1993, Walters was nominated by his colleagues and his supervisor, nurse manager for his excellent work ethic and for being a team player who is well-liked by patients, families and co-workers.

Walters precepts the new Service Assistants and continues to support them until they are comfortable in their positions. His position fills an important need at St. John's.

He takes a pro-active approach in patient care and is known for his deep respect and compassion for the people under his care.
