Attention All Boaters

New York/New Jersey Baykeeper is having their fifth annual pumpout tour. The pumpout tour provides a free service that sends pumpout boats to remove waste from sewage tanks of local boats, instead of boaters disposing of it themselves.

The pumpout boat sponsored by the NY/NJ Baykeeper collects approximately 4,000 gallons of waste every year.

Any boater in Jamaica Bay or Gravesend Bay can simply call, radio or flag down the NY/NJ Baykeeper Pumpout Boat operators to receive this free service. This nonprofit organization has worked for 19 years to protect and preserve, and is providing this service to attempt to decrease the amount of sewage into the bay.

Debbie Mans, of NY/NJ Baykeeper claims "We hope to make the bay a safer and cleaner environment for beachgoers and wildlife." To schedule an appointment with the pumpout boat, call 732- 337-9262, or if already on the water, the pumpout captain can be reached on channel 9.
