Broad Channel now has a new claim to fame, thanks to a new Images of America: Broad Channel book that highlights the rich history of that community. Written by locals, Dan Guarino (writer for Rockaway Artist's Alliance) and his wife Liz Guarino (Wave columnist) the book uses hundreds of pictures to illustrate the exciting past of this nearby location. More ... Peninsula Hospital Center's Vice President, Operations, Allen Corby is presented with a $10,000 check from enthusiastic Auxiliary fundraisers. Due to the steadfast efforts of Oltchick, who personally sold nearly 150 tickets this year, the Auxiliary's raffle packed twice the punch. By hosting two consecutive raffles, the Auxiliary raised $10,000 which was donated to Peninsula Hospital Center, affiliate of the North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System. The pumpout tour provides a free service that sends pumpout boats to remove waste from sewage tanks of local boats, instead of boaters disposing of it themselves. More ... On Saturday night, Flip and Rita Mullen hosted their annual block party, a fundraiser for the Special Olympians and for the Wounded Warriors. The New York City Department of Parks and Recreation Department provided games and face painting; a DJ kept the music going throughout the afternoon and dance contest winners received free New York Mets tickets. More ... St. John's Episcopal Hospital became a supporter of the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life held July 28 to July 29, 2008, at Jacob Riis Park. The Sixth Annual Graybeards Family Run returns on Friday, July 25 at 6:30 p.m. at Rockaway Beach Boulevard and Beach 128 Street.
