      Most of the summer is perfect for outdoor activities- but there is fun indoors, too. A lot of activity is taking place all over the community- some indoor, some outdoor. Here are events taking place locally: Christ Presbyterian Church will have Bingo in the church hall on Church Road on the following Wednesdays in July- the 23rd and the 30th. Doors open at 6 p.m.

      I missed the first baseball All Star Game at Yankee Stadium by several months. The game was played in July of 1939, and I came into the world in November. I certainly missed the first All-Star Game, which was held in 1933 at Comisky Park, Chicago.

The Road Less Traveled
      On June 28, the 9th annual Rockaway Relay for Life was held at Riis Park. This was the first time the event was at Riis Park. The previous eight years the Relay was held at Beach Channel High School. Rain threatened twice to end this year's Relay. First in the afternoon it poured causing all the luminarias that had been set up to be, unfortunately, ruined.
