John James 'Kilroy' Meehan

Former Resident

John Meehan, a former Rockaway resident, died June 13. He was 68.

Meehan was born in Atlantic City, New Jersey on September 16, 1939. He graduated from St. Mary Star of the Sea school, class of 1953 and Far Rockaway High School, class of 1957. He served in the United States Marine Corps and was an avid musician, who played guitar, harmonica and several other instruments. For many years he played with the famous "Harmonicats" and once performed for First Lady Barbara Bush.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret (Mohan Meehan) Dunnion; father, John James Meehan; stepfather, John Dunnion; and mother in-law, Judy Brewer.

Meehan is survived by his wife, Sherry; sons, Brad (Christine), and John (Tammy); stepson, Richard Davis; grandchildren, Colin, Alicia, Erica, Brianna and Sean; sisters, Susan (Ronald) Resua and Marguerite "Peggy" (Jack) Gallagher; Peter Meehan (Margaret); father-in-law, Richard Brewer; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Funeral services were held at the Pensacola Memorial Gardens Funeral Home in Pensacola, Florida.
