Where Are The Lifeguards, Mayor Bloomberg?

Dear Editor,

On Friday, June 27, at 8:55 A.M. I called into the John Gambling Radio Show on WOR. Every Friday Mayor Bloomberg answers questions from the public, between 8 A.M. - 9 A.M. To my surprise the screener put my call through and the Mayor responded to my question, which was "we have an on going problem with the lack of lifeguards in Rockaway." I informed him to my knowledge some lifeguards are not put in chairs until July 4th. I told the Mayor "I know of a chief lifeguard with twenty years of experience, who is also a teacher. In the past she had three lifeguards per chair, she has been reduced to two."

The Mayor responded, "He is aware of the problem," his reasons for the shortage were that few teenagers are interested in being lifeguards, etc. However he also stated "there are fundamental issues. He ended his statement by saying "I WILL HAVE THE PARKS DEPARTMENT LOOK INTO THIS CASE."

I suggest all our Community hold his Honor to his word. If our community does not witness an im- provement, let's get those calls and letters rolling.
