Diamonds Are A Turtle's Best Friend:

Those who are interested in turtles should pay close attention this week, as the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge presents a program on the Diamondback Terrapin turtle, entitled "Diamonds Are A Turtle's Best Friend."

These diamonds of brackish water are in their egg-laying season right now, and participants can explore, with a park ranger, more about Diamond back Terrapins, their nests, and their lives around the refuge.

The program will begin indoors with a brief introduction, and then step outside for a walk along nesting territory. Participants should bring binoculars, sun/ insect protection.

The program is free, but advance registration is requested. Those interested in participating should call the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge at 718-318-4340 for more information.
