Sanders And West Speak At ENACT Meeting
Edgemere Neighborhood Action Contact Team (ENACT) held its monthly meeting on June 24 at Blanche Community Progressive Day Care. City Councilman James Sanders and State Committee Chairperson for the 31st Democratic Assembly District, Valerie West, were invited to answer questions and share their political job descriptions.
West explained the function and purpose of the State Committee Chair to the 20 people in attendance as well as how the position functions within the political process. She also shared how her position as the Community Affairs Director for Rockaway Development and Revitalization Corporation impacts the community and the resources available to the various areas of the Rockaways. West informed those in attendance that she will run for one of the two District Leader seats for the 31st Councilmanic District.
The highlight of the meeting was a verbal and mental "game of Chess" - verbal repartee - between Councilman James Sanders and co-chair Ernest Brown. They discussed the issue of discretionary funds. Brown insisted on knowing the exact amounts and allocations of the Councilman's discretionary funds. The councilman was equally unrelenting in refusing to share specific information. "The budget has not been settled yet," said Sanders. "I will not disclose it prematurely. On July 1, it will be known."
