Rockaway Old Timers Know How to Play Ball

Photos by Timothy Aaron-Styles Photos by Timothy Aaron-Styles Rockaway Old Timers hosted a "Stop the Violence" basketball game on Saturday, June 21 at the PS 42 Park on Beach 66 Street. More than 20 native Rockaway residents, all 40 years of age or older, and a couple of teenagers, created Blue and Red teams and competed in a 40 minute basketball game. The Blue team prevailed (52-48) and by the end of the game several people were limping, gasping for air and massaging aching muscles. The event was sponsored by Veudis and Elevation Enterprises. Former St. John's University basketball player and New York Knick draftee Melvin Utley attended the event.
