Kahn Heads Up PHC Arrhythmia Center
Shoshanah Kahn, M.D. is a Cardiac Electrophysiologist and Pacing Specialist who has a private office on the fourth floor of Peninsula Hospital Center, affiliate of the North Shore- Long Island Jewish Health System. A cardiologist with nearly 10 years experience in treating heart rhythm disorders, Dr. Kahn now heads up PHC's Arrhythmia Center where she specializes in follow-up treatment and maintenance for pacemaker and internal defibrillator patients. She also provides all of the standard health care services that one would seek from a cardiologist.
Dr. Kahn's plan is to bring her specialty closer to the patient population served by Peninsula Hospital Center, but who formerly had to seek cardiac follow-up care in Manhattan or on Long Island. The doctor is pleased to be on the staff of Peninsula Hospital Center and has established a second private office in Cedarhurst, for the convenience of her Five Towns patients. According to Dr. Kahn, once a pacemaker is implanted in a cardiac patient, follow-up care is required every six months, and defibrillator patients need maintenance every three months. Having the expertise of a Board Certified Cardiologist with subspecialty in Electrophysiology close to home affords Dr. Kahn's patients a less stressful maintenance option. She is an expert in the prevention of fainting attacks and is currently completing her master's thesis on this disorder.
Dr. Kahn emphasizes that as a woman, she is well suited to dealing with female cardiac patients and their myriad of women's issues. Studies have shown that women present with heart disease in a more subtle fashion. This can result in a delay in diagnosis in spite of the fact that heart disease continues to be the number one killer of women in America.
Prior to joining the medical staff at Peninsula, Dr. Kahn had a private practice for more than five years in Buffalo, New York. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, a three-year fellowship in Cardiology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and a two year fellowship in Cardiac Electrophysiology and Pacing at McMaster University Medical Center, Ontario.
