Thanks For The Spaghetti & Meatball Fundraiser
Rockaway has been my home for 13 years. The sand is forever between my toes. My heart is warmed by the wonderful response of residents in our community. Our 100 Precinct Community Council's Youth Committee hosted our first Spaghetti and Meatball Dinner at the Knight of Columbus on Tuesday evening, June 17. The dinner was a wonderful success. The room was filled with adults and children. It is safe to say ALL HAD A WONDERFUL TIME.
There are so many I would like to thank. First and foremost my exceptional Committee members, without them there would not have been a successful dinner. The committee members are Pat Wood, Betsy Ladd, Leslie Mahoney and Glenn DiResto. There is no endeavor too large or too small that this hard working group won't tackle and excel at. We all had large pots of sauce simmering and our individual version of meatballs cooked at home. The transporting to the Knights was a memorable feat. All committee members went above and beyond to sell tickets for our dinner.
Pat has become more familiar with our Beach 116 Street merchants after posting many flyers. Pat is marvelous at enlisting her friends and neighbors to support and contribute to our efforts. Betsy, although she has a large family, is never too busy to give her time and hard work for whatever needs to be done to support young people. Betsy's work adage is carried on by her son Tim Ladd. This terrific young man greets all with a smile. He is always anxious to help with everything and is often joined by his friend and continuous helper. After watching Leslie tackle the kitchen at the Knights, I am certain she would be capable of running her own restaurant and it would be a success, because of her strong will and determination. Glenn who is our most recent committee member is a wonderful asset. Glenn is a retired Police Lieutenant. He has many friends, who are there for him and therefore for us. His past experience with the NYPD brings to us knowledge that is a benefit. Although he is retired he remains passionate in his desire to continue to serve his community.
Thanks to ALL who made donations, even if they were unable to attend. Their generosity was very helpful. Thanks D. Brian Heffernan for the generous check you donated to our Youth Committee. Thanks goes to Marty Murray (resident of Belle Harbor) from Bedford Funding for the terrific Cyclone game tickets that were raffled at dinner.
Last, but not least, thanks to our 100 Precinct Community Council's President and my husband Danny; his innovative thinking and exceptional relationship with our generous merchants often is a great help with fund raisers. Our contributing merchants are as follows: Belle Harbor Foods, Bon Appetit, Key Food, NSA, Pickles and Pies, and Currans' Superior Meats. They helped to make our dinner possible.
Thank you to our own Rockaway Wave for always being generous covering our events.
