Build support for the arts - literally... with hammers, nails and two by fours! The RAA needs donations of building supplies to continue renovations on sTudio 7 Gallery. Plywood, sheet rock, insulation, pipe and many other items can all be put to good use by our volunteer builders. If you know of any business, group or person willing to donate materials, please contact the Building Committee via the R AA office. Your help makes our galleries shine. Remember, they are your galleries, too.
See the end of the column for contact information.
Thinking about entering an RAA exhibition? One of the perks could be your own Gallery Sitter's Event (GSE). A GSE is a perfect opportunity to publicize your artwork, bring more visitors to the RAA galleries, and provide a service to the community. Would you like to present:
An artist's talk? A hands on demonstration? A workshop? A poetry or prose reading, music or other performance showcase? A mini-opening? It's up to you.
If you are an artist who would like more people to see your work, or if you are an interested observer with an idea, this is your chance to bring your imaginative spirit to gallery afternoons and develop programs that will be educational, informative, creative and/or entertaining, and draw in the public. We will leave the form and format up to you. RAA will be happy to publicize your Gallery Sitter's Event. (Advanced notice required.) Contact the RAA office with your information. Let's hear from you.
There's more to the show than the opening.
Dan Guarino, my trusty publicity cohort, has asked me to thank all those who entertained and tech-ed at the RAA reception for "Good and Plenty" and "Russian Folk Art," and on the RAA Moonstage during the Rockaway Literary and Film Festival. Dan is a poet/singer/songwriter/musician/autho r/bon vivant/sometime dancer/obvious time juggler who is an essential part of most entertainment RAA events. He coordinated the performers for the Lit Fest and was that event's RAA's liaison to RMAC. Space does not allow me to mention all their names. For now, it must suffice to say a general thank you to them all, and to end with Dan's own words:
"It was my pleasure to work with, perform on the same stage with, stage manage and in some cases introduce all the fine and talented people. All credit for the success of the Moonstage performances is to them." And in no small part, to you too, Dan.
