Historical Views of the Rockaways
The Very First Far Rockaway Boardwalk - 1897 to 1903
      A fter the first outer beach (Hog Island) located off the mainland shore at Far Rockaway was destroyed, by a direct hit hurricane in September of 1983, it took several years for Hog Island Two to develop. The new outer beach was close enough to shore for bridges to give access to it, whereas the old Hog Island was reached by steam cable ferries!

      Battle over school cuts still raging The fur is still flying over school budget cuts with almost daily demos at Tweed. But the PEP (the quasi Board of Ed) still voted 8-1 to support the budget, with new Queens rep Dmytro Fedkowskyj going along with the majority. But he did read a statement.

Observations
      A few days ago, my wife, Louisa and I were taking a long walk on a beach. The sky was a bright blue and although the day was sunny it was not too warm. There was a gentle breeze. Birds were singing. Boats were gently rocking with the gentle waves. It was a perfect day. Both of us forgot our aches and pains. All of our family and financial problems appeared far away.
