You Failed To Mention…

Dear Editor,

Your photo credit for PS 47's receiving a silver medal in the Music Memory Program at the Skirball Center for the Arts omitted a very important item: this would never have occurred if it weren't for Rockaway Music and Arts Council's sponsorship of the program and member Myra Berger's dedication to making it a success. RMAC was also not given its due in Mr. Scott's Wave Review of the Rockaway Literary Arts and Film Festival. Again, this is solely a Rockaway Music and Arts Council Project.

We are the oldest, cultural organization (53 years) in the Rockaways responsible for the Annual Fall Arts and Crafts Festival; Summer Picnic Concert Series; School Music Memory Program; Fall Cultural Trips; fiscal conduit for the independent film, "Bungalows of Rockaway"; music sponsor for the Annual 9/11 Tribute Park Fund Raiser; the 9/11 Memory Tree on Patricia A. Brackley Park; Partner with Rockaway Chamber of Commerce's sponsorship of their Annual Riis Park Kite Festival; and initial conduit for the formation of Rockaway Artists Alliance.

All this has been accomplished by a very small group of unpaid, dedicated community members.

Over the years our phone has taken messages for Rockaway Artists Alliance, Rockaway Theatre Company, Beach Channel High School's Do-Wop program, and believe it or not, a request asking what train goes to Rockaway.

We are currently planning our Fall Festival and working with Gateway National Park to secure a suitable site for our Summer Concerts, which, as requested by GNRA, be moved from Fort Tilden to Riis Park.
STEPHEN S. YAEGER
PRESIDENT OF RMAC
