Recent Patient Praises St. John's Hospital

Dear Editor:

Last week I was admitted to St. John's Episcopal Hospital for ambulatory foot surgery. It's not the sort of thing one looks forward to in the first place, so I have to admit to not being in the highest of spirits or the most complimentary frame of mind when I arrived. However, the expertise of my surgeon, Dr. Lloyd Bardfeld, also known as the King of Feet, Dr. Kongseh Lim, my anesthetist and the nursing staff, Florence and Belle, in the recovery room was something that cannot be overlooked.

To begin with, the procedure was something which could have caused me extreme and severe pain. However, my pain was expertly managed by caring and professional staff who were patient, kind and sincere in their efforts to make me feel safe and confident in their abilities. The nursing staff was right there for me from the moment I opened my eyes in recovery until I eventually left the facility some two and a half hours later. I even received a follow-up call at home to see how I was doing, which in some small way was a real joy for me.

I just wanted to go on record as saying that in these perilous times of competitive pricing, HMO's and pay for performance, it certainly was wonderful to be cared for by a group of professionals who still are determined to put patients first. Thanks, St. John's, for a job well done!
