National Safety Month

June is National Safety Month, and with good reason, as summer activities also bring unintentional injuries. Senate Democratic Leader Malcolm A. Smith states that "The children are swimming and bicycling, dad is mowing the lawn and fixing the roof, mom is gardening and cleaning out the garage. It's these kinds of summer activities that carry a high chance of injury. However, by being safe, cautious and alert, you can help reduce your bruises, and hopefully avoid a trip to the emergency room."

National Safety Month is sponsored by the National Safety Council. The council hopes to spark open-dialog concerning safety at home and in the work place, surrounding topics such as emergency preparedness, distracted driving, poisoning prevention and fall prevention. Senator Smith urges New Yorker's to take a CPR course and learn proper first aid techniques.
