Love,Peace And Unity Tournament About To Tipoff

By Elio Velez

The hot days of summer have arrived and the basketball court at Inwood Terrace Playground is soon to be scorching as well.

Starting on July 7, The Love, Peace and Unity Tournament will not only include some of the hottest playground action but also serves an event which will benefit the community.

"This tournament will bridge the gap to enrich the community," says Jeffrey "Jazz" Moye, the director of the tournament.

"We're putting this together because of the violence that has happened around the community. We hope to eliminate that by the community coming together with this tournament to confront the violence and find a way to help with this problem."

The Love Peace and Unity Tournament is a pro-am unlimited event for those who would like to register. The tournament champion will receive a prize of $1,000.

Players who are 18 and over can register for this full tournament. The registration fee for a team is $400 with 10 members comprising the roster. Registration is first come, first serve.

The event will last throughout the summer and be played on Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights starting at 6 p.m. in Inwood.

Sponsors for the tournament include South Shore Pizza in Inwood, Miss D's Playgroup on 1526 Central Avenue in Far Rockaway, and Jeremiah C. Gaffney Funeral Home on 92 Wahl Avenue in Inwood. For more information on the tournament, contact Jeffrey "Jazz" Moye at 1-347-993-2546 or head referee Mel Utley at 917-363-9735.
