Capitalizing Race

Dear Editor,

The letter is in reference to The Abject Failure of Far Rockaway's Black Leadership.

Please consider usage of the upper case "B" when referring to Black people, as the upper case "B" is more appropriate when referring to human beings (e.g. Hispanic, Latino, Asian, Chinese, Jewish.)

Lower case usage of "b" is more appropriate when describing "things, objects or inanimate objects."

If you disagree, then maybe instead of using the word "Black" when referring to African-Americans, you should consider any of the following: "African," "African descendants," "diasporic Africans," "people of color," or "African- American."

Thank you.

TIMOTHY AARON-STYLES
