Fifth grade students from PS 42 wrapped up the school year and said goodbye to their new friends in Cameroon, Africa, during a special assembly on Thursday, May 29. The assembly featured photography, video, student performances, food and more to share their Global Youth Connect Experience with their peers.

Since January, nearly 40 New York City students have participated in Global Youth Connect (GYC), an integrated school-day program that provides high-quality cultural enrichment programs to youth across the world. For 12-weeks, the students took part in fun activities, active discussions, and group and individual projects that utilize technology to connect them with their peers in Yaoundé, Cameroon, all while building upon their writing, reading, creative arts, geography and social studies skills.

"When I heard about Global Youth Connect and its vision to introduce PS 42 students to the larger world, and, more specifically, Cameroon, I jumped at the chance to bring this program to my school - even in its pilot stage," said Riva Madden, principal, PS 42. "As we wrap up the school year, I am amazed at how GYC brought life to the current curriculum. I know this is an experience that the students will never forget."
