RAA Presents Good and Plenty:A Multi-faceted Exhibition
The Rockaway Artists Alliance (RAA) presents "Good and Plenty": an exhibition of the best of RAA, an Art Auction and a Russian Folk Art exhibition. The shows will be held at sTudio 6 and sTudio 7 from June 7 to June 22, with an opening reception to be held at sTudio 7, on Sunday, June 15, from 1-3 p.m.
The presentations feature more than 18 artists; inaugurate the first ever auction of RAA's original works; and showcase the international ethnographical art group Pareskeva's Rus-sian folk art.
"Good and Plenty" draws from the best of all previous RAA shows and each work has been specifically selected by the artist and the show's jury. It presents work in sculpture, photography, oil painting, poetry, watercolor, mixed media, drawing and spoken word via audio CD.
Also presented will be an auction wall, which will be on view for the entire run of the exhibition. Original pieces chosen by individual artists will be open for bid throughout the run of the shows, and there will be a grand finale auction on Sunday, June 22. Bidding can be done anytime before then.
In sTudio 6, the St. Petersburg based group Paraskeva will present "Ragbaby Festival." The project presents precise copies of ethnographical dolls from the museum collection, authors' costume dolls, the composition "Russian Wedding," and photographs of life in Russia's villages in the 19th century. This will be the first showing of the exhibition.
In addition to its own events, the Rockaway Artists Alliance will host the Rockaway Music and Arts Council's Literary Arts Festival, which features more than 40 authors, discussion panels, writers talks, book sales and signings, children's activities, and local writing contest awards on Sunday, June 8 from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Poetry and prose reading, short plays and live music will be presented throughout the day on the outdoor Moonstage. There will also be a mini-film festival held in the Rockaway Theatre Company's Post Theatre on both Saturday, June 7 and Sunday, June 8 from 7-11 p.m.
Admission to all events and exhibitions is free. Gallery hours are Saturday 12-4 p.m., Sunday 1-4 p.m., and by appointment. For information, call 718-474-0861, e-mail rockart116@ aol.com or visit www.rockawayartists alliance.org.
