Care During Emergencies Extended To Pets

An evacuation plan for both owners and their pets during a disaster has now been created under the collaboration of the American Red Cross and United Animals Nations. Together, the two have formulated a plan that creates a shelter and care for pets when evacuation is inevitable.

The UAN services during a disaster include a temporary shelter, evacuation, rescue and transportation of animals, a valid identification system, veterinarian care for sick animals, food and supplies for the animals, compassionate removal of animals who do not survive a disaster, lost animal documentation, reuniting animals with their families, and adoption of those animals left without an owner. The service aims to help not only the animals, but also the pet owners, 2/3 of whom claim they would not evacuate without their beloved pet.
