Spikers and Bumpers and Sets,Oh My!
      What a surprise - it rained on the RBVL Wednesday night at Riis Park. After so many questionable weather nights over the years, players really have their routine down to a science. By setting up quickly and on time they were rewarded with a window of just enough good volleyball weather to complete all matches.

Teams Take Top Honors In Peninsula Cup Championship
      Another enormously successful Peninsula Cup Soccer season ended last weekend with intense playoff action and a celebratory barbeque. With only three entries, FC Barcelona still won the championship in two divisions: Girls second to third grade and Boys fourth to fifth Grade. Four other clubs struck gold.

St.Camillus Volleyball Wins Championship
      The St. Camillus volleyball team won the Rookie division Diocesan championship this year. After a slow start, the girls worked very hard and greatly improved over the season. The girls finished third out of 12 teams in the regular season, and qualified for the playoffs where they went undefeated until the championship game.

Utley Humbled At Selection To St.John's All-Century Team
      After thirty plus years of finishing his collegiate and professional basketball career, Mel Utley had moved on to the next stage of his life. Currently a substitute teacher, at PS 197, Utley has continued to be a mentor and be a friend to the young students of Rockaway. And it isn't far from where some of the students live at the Redfern Houses, where he grew up.

Pepper Steppers On The Road
      Stan's Pepper Steppers, the New 2008 New York State Double Dutch Champions, will compete this week at the 35th Annual American Double Dutch World Invitational Championship. The Pepper Steppers will travel to the event, which will be held at the Exhibition Center in Sumter, South Carolina, from June 12 to 15.
