Police Arrest Two In March Redfern Shootings
Police say they have arrested two men wanted in a shooting in front of the Redfern public housing project earlier this year.
Police and court sources identified the two as Khalif McBride, 31, of 12-70 Redfern Avenue and Willie Howell, 21, of 141 Beach 56 Place.
Sources say the two men got into a fight with one of their victims near the Redfern Houses on March 9 at 2:20 p.m.
McBride allegedly pulled out a handgun and fired several shots at the unidentified victims.
Officers responding to 1310 Redfern Avenue found two males on the ground with gunshot wounds.
The victims, one with a gunshot wound to his back and the other with a gunshot wound to his leg, were taken to Jamaica Hospital. Police officials called a level one mobilization, which brought officers from all over Queens to the crime scene, but initially found no trace of the suspects.
Both of the men charged with the shootings were arrested by authorities this week and charged with second degree attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon, according to a spokesperson for Queens District Attorney Richard Brown.
McBride is being held without bail and is due back in court on June 6. Howell, who is not believed to be the shooter, was released on $100,000 bail and is due back in court on June 9, according to Brown's spokesperson.
