(Top) One of the accident victims is placed in the ambulance and taken to Peninsula Hospital after his car jumps the curb and crashes into the side of an Arverne home. An elderly man turning onto Rockaway Beach Boulevard from Beach 77 Street lost control of his car on Tuesday, plowing onto the sidewalk, through a tree, and finally through the front porch of a new Arverne home.

Residents at the scene who witnessed the accident, asked that the city place either a traffic light or a stop sign along Rockaway Beach Boulevard somewhere between Beach 81 Street and Beach 67 Street, a stretch of road that currently has no lights or stop signs.

"It has become a speedway around here," one resident said. "We need a traffic light somewhere along here because there is a school nearby and too many people are speeding." The unidentified elderly driver and his passenger were transported to Peninsula Hospital for evaluation.
